Welcome to the latest update which is so late it could be backdated.

As people are aware the Group is staging the VTTA National 15 ml championship on 16th April.

We are using the J4/32 course which is basically a lap of the J2/9, starting in Twemlow Lane and finishing on the A50.

The committee, with Mike Cotgreaves's expertise, are looking to enable all our Group competitors to ride the event.

There will be an award for the club team and local rider best on Standard/Veteran Handicap.

We are looking to make this a notable event in our calendar and will welcome all offers of help and support.

Nationally the VTTA has made some significant developments:

  • A new logo is now in general use
  • A kit design is underway and will be available late March
  • Gilets with M/c & NW VTTA will be available in next three weeks
  • There is an automated Standards system on the VTTA website.

Aware as I am that there are some very good riders in our Group, I would wish that we could organise a club and Group team to challenge in the National events.

Please let one of the Committee know if there is interest from a club or individuals.

The committee is considering making a change to the long-standing Annual Awards Lunch.

For many years it has been held at the Masonic Hall Middlewich and catering done by Kath Bell.

Kath is changing her business focus and there is a thought that we should move to a more modern and central location with its own catering facilities.

Any ideas welcome.

STANDARDS

So far this year David has received 26 applications for Standard attempts and will be accepting more from those who have forgotten(?).

RECRUITMENT

We are always looking for fresh faces to join the Group, please spread the word to fellow riders and non-riders that they will be welcomed.

And finally, Derek Hodgkins has agreed to join the committee which has raised our age profile somewhat but his enthusiasm and experience will be invaluable.

Good afternoon,

The new time trial season is almost upon us so I thought it would be timely to wish you every success in your events this year and to give a quick update for racing riders in the Group.

  1. Please find attached a list of Manchester and NW VTTA Group awards and events to build into your goals and targets for the year.   The Group awards trophies for 12 competitions, medals and plaques for improving standards and directly supports six events.
  2. The VTTA National 15 miles TT Championship is run by Manchester and North West Group this year.  It is going to be a great event covering one lap of the J2/9 circuit, starting in Twemlow Lane.  It will be heavily marshalled, there are Championship jerseys for the winners and entry preference is given to VTTA members.   https://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/find-events
  3. A quick reminder to ensure you have linked your VTTA and CTT accounts.  Please note, if you renew your membership after 28 February you will need to relink your accounts.
  4. The VTTA website is excellent.  Continuing investment in the website allows members to see their results in real time, including Standards performance, and season long National competitions are always up to date and there are plans to develop the site further in 2022.  Members are strongly encouraged to use the VTTA website and the Manchester and NW Group pages, in particular:
    1. To keep up to date with latest news, https://www.vtta.org.uk/groups/manchester_nw
    2. Review your Profile.  It shows your latest performances and targets against your standard and updates automatically.
    3. Review age records.  Age records are up to date and riders are asked to send record claims to the Manchester and NW Recorder immediately, no need to wait until the end of the season.
    4. Renewing membership is easy from the Group webpage, https://www.vtta.org.uk/groups/manchester_nw
  5. Standards can be claimed online using the My Standards tab under My Profile.  As Standards can only be claimed once per season per distance, it is best to wait until the end of the season to claim.  There is no need to send evidence to the Recorder unless you make a claim via email or through the post.
  6. Finally, look out for Veterans Handicap results.  The VTTA are trialling a new way of presenting Standards that is much more logical and easier to understand than the current system.  It uses exactly the same data, so no change to the actual standard or handicap.

Best of luck and I hope to see you soon.

David
