Manchester & North West Group

May 2022

Let me bring you upto date with Group matters:

  • Early season events
  • National 15-mile championship
  • Future events
  • Treasurer’s post

Well, our first events of the season are over and done with.

The early 10-mile, M&D in March, saw 8 plus members taking to the roads.

Best on standard for the Group was Ade Hughes with +4:14 with Alan Chorley following with +3:49.

New member Tim Smith turned in a creditable result with +2:25.

Mention is made of Stephen Turner, Phil Wood, Join Verbickas and evergreen, Alan Shuttleworth.

The National 15 mile Championship, blessed with more than decent weather, a course which, after much effort from several people, proved fast and safe for the riders and a success for the Group.

Many complimentary comments were offered, thanks to all who supported before and on the day.

Overall winner on VAH, Richard Oakes, put in another winning performance. Covering that course at a speed just over 30 miles per hour is impressive.

Not to be outdone, Debbie Moss won the women’s’ VAH in style.

At a local level apologies are necessary. Seamons were announced as fastest local team on the day but on check back it was the Warrington trio that turned in the best team VAH, congratulations.

Trophies will be forwarded to the riders and Seamons retain theirs as second place team.

My apology.

Other trophies will be made available at a future local event, I am in Spain until mid June.

The various spot prizes went to Alan Shuttleworth, Steve Loraine and Jayne Dickens.

Our next event is

21 May 50 mls   Warrington Road Club and VTTA M/C NW Group

( Report to follow)

4 June                 25 mls        VTTA Manchester & NW Group

As usual we will be asking for people to give of their time once more as marshals etc for that event.

A reminder of upcoming events:

21 May

16 June          10 mls Buxton CC/Sett Valley Cycles and VTTA M/c NW Group

16 July            25 mls Seamons CC and VTTA M/C NW Group

Edgar Reynolds is resigning his post as Group Treasurer.

It is with great regret that his decision is accepted. In his own inimitable manner, Edgar has managed the Group accounts with a sense of aplomb and no little humour.

On behalf of the Committee and the Group, thank you, Edgar.

Important notices always leave us with a problem….

in this case we need a new treasurer!!

Anyone interested contact Tony or Nev.

There are 10 gilets bearing the new VTTA logo for sale at £35.80 per garment.

As of 2nd May the new design for short sleeve tops and jackets will be available for purchase online at Gear Club.

The above items are a major part of the NEC’s drive to raise the profile of the VTTA

amongst the cycling community.

We, the committee, can never be sure how often this website is accessed by members.

NEC and the Groups are seeking volunteers who are familiar with social platforms to enable VTTA to access the members and receive comments more readily.

At a National level, NEC is seeking a replacement for Andrew Simpkins, current Chair, who has given notice to step down at year end.

Andrew has been a driving force in the development of the association over the past

six years.

In addition, NEC is also looking to appoint a new National Secretary.

If you are interested, please give me a call, on my mobile, 07901 528646

to discuss the two roles.
