Competitive Cycling for Life ^
Competitors faced conditions of steady rain on Sunday morning for the National 25 on the rolling D25/20 course in Shropshire. We had quite a few DNS but congratulations to all those hardy souls who braved the weather. Excellent organisation and refreshments by Alan Broadbent and the Merseyside Group helped to create a positive atmosphere despite the weather! Many thanks to them.
Our championship winners this year were Linda Dewhurst and Keith Dorling. Linda achieves a clean sweep of the shorter distance championships this year - 10,15,25 and 30 - plus her two UCI world titles. Keith has been a regular podium visitor but this is his first champion's jersey. Keith and Linda were separated by only 3 seconds on age adjusted time (50:58 to 51:01) and there actual times (57:37 and 1:03:54) show what a tough morning it was.
Silver and bronze medals went to Jen Clegg and Helen Tudor in the female event and to Joe Costello and Matt Hill in the Open event.
The winning Group Team was Merseyside with three riders from the Velotik Racing Team - David Williams, James Griffiths and Jarod Garrington. Their margin was only 30 seconds over the East Midlands team of Mick Stevens, Jen Clegg and Matthew Uttley! The winning club team was Legato Racing Team - Joe Costello, Simon Horsley and Mark Hamer. Well done to Legato who have won club team medals at the 25, 30 and 50 mile championships this season.
