From the Organiser

I have just finished reading 'All That Matters' Chris Hoy's book detailing his diagnosis and treatment for Prostate Cancer which is ongoing. Books about illness and Cancer in particular, does not seem an inviting prospect but the message is clear from our most decorated Olympian, treatment is hard to take, Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy is tough on the body …sportsmen are used to suffering and pain, but the unspoken and unrecognised battle is for the mind. Chris is fighting a constant mental battle to be positive for himself and the ones who rely on him while staring into an uncertain future
Medical treatment is at the NHS behest but the battle for the mind is left to charities like TOGETHER AGAINST CANCER they provide alternative therapy counselling and education, creativity through art and other therapies that sooth the mind and ease the worry that cannot be treated by medicine
Loosing yourself in creativity, reading a book all play their part. Sean was a designer and artist as well as a cyclist and family man. His art as well as his cycling sustained him through dark months of treatment, giving him a purpose and a focus outside of hospitals. That is why is is necessary to support charities like TOGETHER AGAINST CANCER
At this event I will be having a sale of cycling books starting with my own and some which have been donated by friends (Training - Racing - Biography - Touring - History - Bicycle Mechanics) I would encourage people to ‘bring and buy’ a cycling book. I will be collecting and then selling the books at all the VTTA (East Midland) events this season We all have a stack of cycling related books and this is a great opportunity to do something good with them ...all the proceeds will again go to
TOGETHER AGAINST CANCER

Thanks for entering the VTTA East Midlands Sean Vincent Memorial ‘10’ I hope for some good luck and good weather; the wind is looking SE which is the same conditions as the super-fast Melton Olympic event two weeks ago when the course record was broken.
This is a charity event and it has a message …Prostate cancer can kill you! If you don’t know what to look for then get informed this is an event for riders over forty years of age and Prostate cancer is your minute man. if you have not read Chris Hoy’s book on his diagnosis and treatment (which is ongoing) then it’s a good starting point. We will have information at the event to get you started
The charity this event is supporting is a local Leicester one TOGETHER AGAINST CANCER, they provide complimentary therapy for cancer sufferers and Sean used their services during his treatment
I have created a BOOK SHOP to encourage you all to make/give a donation to a worthy cause and take away a book(s) to remember Sean. Give what you can afford but give in the knowledge that it will help somebody less fortunate and somebody in need
Take as many books as you like, I will be doing a couple of other bookshops at our other VTTA E Midlands events, but I want people to give generously and take a memory of Sean because he would love to be racing at the weekend … he was just unlucky …o7ò

Other VTTA East Midlands have three more races to enter this season, other events can be found on the Cycling Time Trials website ...give it a go …o7ò
