Competitive Cycling for Life ^
Hot on the heels of last weekend’s VTTA National 10-Mile Championship, this weekend sees the National 30-Mile Championship take place in Kent on Sunday.
A good field of riders will compete for the titles, spanning the age ranges and the categories.
Entries are up on last year, and with defending champion Linda Dewhurst choosing not to ride this time, a new champion will be crowned.
Of the female entries look out for 64-year-old Sarah Matthews (a3crg) and 71-year-old Jen Clegg (Team Bottrill), while 54-year-old Liam Maybank (Twickenham CC) is tipped to be actual fastest and will also be going for glory on age-adjusted time.
Also in the open category on age adjusted time, watch out for 2024 VTTA National 12-Hour champion Malcolm Cox (VC St Raphael, 57 years old), 72-year-old Chris Lord (Brighton Excelsior CC) and Cambridge CC’s Chris Dyason (77 years old) who was fourth in the VTTA National 10 in Scotland last weekend.
The event takes place on the Q30/3 course, which is reasonably flat at first, although after around 12 miles it starts heading up to Ashford. The road surface is reported to be pretty good for the majority of the course which includes four roundabouts – some of which are passed a couple of times.
It’s quite a wide course for the most part, with straight roads giving good visibility.
