Manchester & Northwest Group

15-mile TT

29 June 2024

In keeping with our Best Practice guidance, the Group staged an impressive event on the one lap circuit centred around Cranage and Chelford.

But more of that later.

Organiser Robbie Harcourt did the Group proud. His attention to detail made for an excellent promotion. Even the late notice from start timekeeper, together with results system, that he might have Covid did not faze Robbie.

The HQ, Cranage Village Hall, was easily identified for incoming marshals and riders, the VTTA sail proudly flying at the entrance to the hall.

Members and non-members once more gave of their time to marshal, time keep, generally be there.

And to the catering, all home cooked/baked, a great display of cakes, scones, ham baps and bananas!

Our thanks to the team, Lynne Wright, Julia Cotgreave, the Irwins, John and Jenny, and Billie Farrell.

All the above contributed to an enjoyable and successful afternoon which culminated with the presentation of Honorary Life Membership to Ian Ross, the keeper of all matters time trialling in the Manchester district. Thank you, Ian.

Now to the event. We were fortunate to enjoy one of the better days of the season, A breeze, temperature low 20s and only one traffic related incident. Mick Hutchins and John Verbickas held upby a tractor held up by two leisure cyclists. How ironic. Of the 55 entries, 29 were registered VTTA.

Overall victory went to Alex Royle, local CTT chair, whilst in the Female category Alice Taylor topped the board.

Road Bike victors were Dave Roberts and Denise Hurst with the Shaw family, Richard and Gillian, taking top honours in the Open and Female categories on AAT.

Best team on AAT was Seamons, Richard Shaw, Steven Dooley and Alan Chorley.

Robbie made awards in age groups v40-49, V50-59, V60-69 and V70+ and Lanterne Rouge award to John Leach a regular visitor from N. Lancs & Lakes.

Apart from the last award all prizes were of equal value across all categories.

Here’s hoping Robbie agrees to promoting the event next year, he might not have much choice!!

Thank you to all and well done.
